Geothermal heating and cooling

Geoenergy and solar power for energy efficient buildings

Sometimes all you need is right in front of you – or simply in the ground on which you stand.

Our tailored solutions for large properties are developed with geoenergy, in other words geothermal energy, as a foundation. The energy comes “from the bedrock” and is basically solar energy stored in the soil that together with heat pumps can be utilized both in heating and cooling a property throughout the year. It is a sustainable and energy efficient solution for almost any type of real estate.

With our geoenergy solutions a building can also reach green building ratings, such as LEED and BREEAM classifications. Learn more about the possibilities of geoenergy and contact us!

Drilling for renewable geoenergy

Geoenergy, or geothermal energy, is solar energy stored in the soil and can be extracted from bedrock or from the surface of the soil.
Geo wells are drilled into the bedrock, which operate like a battery: the heat stored in it during the summer can be used during the heating season in the winter. Using heat pump technology, the energy stored can be efficiently utilized both for heating and cooling the property. The electricity needed for the production can be generated using green electricity at a predictable price.

Improving the property’s energy efficiency with heat pump technology

We often provide our real estate energy solutions as hybrid energy solutions, where we combine for instance geoenergy, heat pump technology, solar energy and recovery of different forms of excess heat. This way, we can together with our customers reach a renewable and highly efficient energy solution. Condensate heat can be recycled instead of releasing it into the air. Thermal energy can be extracted using water source heat pumps immersed in the nearby lake or river. Using the property’s waste waters or the condensate heat from cold production can also be our way to energy efficiency.

Solar energy for real estates

Taking advantage of solar energy is one path to increase a property’s energy self-sufficiency even further. As an addition to our solutions, installing solar panels typically enable lower energy costs, as the green electricity can be utilized both in the actual energy production and as well as elsewhere in the property. Solar panels can be mounted on different type of roofs, or created as a “solar park” on the ground. We always design the solar solution considering the customer’s needs and the possibilities of the property.

Citycon is committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030, and the decisions made at Lippulaiva on energy production and procurement support this goal in the best possible way. In particular, we are pleased that the chosen solutions are not only environmentally friendly but also economically competitive.

Choosing the right technology

In some cases, one size does fit all. In some cases, it doesn’t. When we tailor solutions for industries and large properties – like we do within our Energy as a Service® partnership model – we always need to think outside the box.

The customer’s process and goals are what’s guiding us, not the technology we have at hand. We don’t favor one technology before the other. We have long experience and solid expertise within several technology areas, but we always stay curious and never hesitate to try new ways that make our customers prepared for their next step.

In Estonia, we offer hybrid energy solution for large properties. The hybrid energy solution involves both heating and cooling, using different energy sources to reach the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution. Learn more at adven.ee.
