Jyrki Vainionpää takes up Adven’s reins
Jyrki Vainionpää (41) took on the position of CEO of Adven Group at the beginning of August. In recent years, Adven has grown strongly both organically and through acquisitions. In addition to Finland, Adven operates in Sweden, Estonia and now also in Latvia. The estimated net sales for the current year are approximately EUR 200 million (in 2017 approximately EUR 150 million).
Jyrki Vainionpää started off at Adven by listening to customers and employees.
“First off, I would like to talk to Adven employees and customers and learn as much as possible from them. As I cannot meet all of the almost 350 employees face to face during the first weeks, I sent each employee questions about Adven’s strengths and development. I will not develop any further plans for the future until I have better familiarized myself with the company as a member of the organization,” says Jyrki Vainionpää.
“Leadership has long been an area of personal development and interest for me. Leadership means providing services: as a leader I must serve the organization, for example, by creating a fair environment where people can develop and excel.”
Before joining Adven, Jyrki Vainionpää acted as the Deputy CEO of Vapo Oy. In the spring of 2018, he and his family made a journey round the world that lasted almost five months. Two of the family’s three children were homeschooled during the journey and participated in exams in the Peru mountains and in an RV in New Zealand, for example.
A CEO with a desire to learn is a perfect match for Adven as the company itself has always been agile and adaptable. Adven started in Finland as Neste Lämpö Oy, providing solutions for the sale of oil. However, the company has since undergone several successful transformations, and currently helps to reduce oil consumption in the process industry and promotes energy and water efficient solutions based on the circular economy. Adven’s total energy and water solutions significantly reduce energy and water use by our customers, such as DuPont, Saarioinen, S Group and Valio, thanks to new technology, for example.
“The sector and Adven, in particular, have great potential. Adven combines the expertise and experience gained from the implementation of hundreds of solutions with the ability to make even large investments and commit to long-term collaboration with the customer. These are important factors when a process industry company, an owner of a large property or a municipal energy company, for example, assess their potential partner.”
Jyrki Vainionpää started his career in the area of strategy and corporate finance, acting as a management consultant at McKinsey in Helsinki and New York as well as an M&A advisor in London. He then led the strategic development team at Nokia and acted as CFO, operative director and most recently Deputy CEO at Vapo Oy. He holds a M.Sc. (Econ.) degree and a CFA designation and is a Harvard Business School Alumnus (Advanced Management Program).
Matti Viljo, Adven’s CEO until now, will retire.
